The aim is to develop a freely accessible digital tool for optimizing career guidance in schools in the medium term in cooperation with the Ministry of Schools and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MSB) and 20 North Rhine-Westphalian project schools. This should enable the diagnosis and evaluation of school development at different levels in order to uncover potential and derive recommendations for action. In addition, this tool is intended to provide accompanying materials tailored to individual school needs.
The aim is to generate a mutual benefit: the project schools will be supported and (scientifically) accompanied in the further development of career guidance during the project period. At the same time research will be promoted in the sense of a science-practice transfer. The finished product and the accompanying materials are to be made available to all schools in North Rhine-Westphalia in the future.
The aim of career guidance at schools is to support students in their career development in such a way that they can proactively initiate an individual and well-founded first career choice. This is usually achieved through targeted interventions. These should be applied in the sense of individual support on the one hand and through the curricular integration of career guidance into everyday school life on the other. The effectiveness of career guidance is not only decided at the level of content and methodology, but also in its anchoring at the personnel and organizational level of the respective school. For this reason, the context of the individual school and its specific framework conditions are coming more into focus.
Based on current theoretical and empirical references, seven development-critical areas of career guidance were defined, which essentially must be considered individually on school-level. With the help of a digital tool, the first step is to visualize the development of each of the seven areas in a differentiated way.
The following, different iterative project stages for schools are shown.
Cooperation with project schools includes two personal visits per calendar year. The content of each workshop is based on the needs and topics in the career guidance of the respective project school. The workshops take place either in the schools or at the university.
